A
revolution has begun....that's leaving other viewers standing...
Daeja has once again shown the way forward in PDF
delivery. The Document Streaming Server Module demonstrates just how much reduction
in
network
traffic you can really achieve when focusing knowledge and innovation
on the one problem that leads to more delays and headaches than
almost any other during document viewing.
As documents become larger, time to view becomes longer and longer and it's ultimately all down to the sheer amount of data needed to download to the viewer.
There have been numerous attempts to deal with this issue and
these attempts usually fall into one of two categories. Either
some kind of server-side pre-rendering (usually into an image format
supported by the viewer) in order to permit transfer of pages on
demand, or pre-separation of pages (into separate PDF files) so
that each can be viewed separately without the need to download
the whole document.
The problem with pre-rendering is that it is only a perceived
improvement; this ‘improvement’ is only so long as
just one or two pages are viewed. When viewing more pages, it actually
increases network traffic (image based versions of PDF documents
are larger than PDF originals) and so will ultimately lead to reduced
network performance and longer overall delays; especially when
the number of documents and users viewing them increases.
The problem with the latter approach is that it results in users
losing the ease of viewing that comes with simply clicking on
the 'next page' button, but instead having to manually select and
download those pages required. It also does not reduce network
traffic particularly if users have a tendency to view all pages
or print all pages.
Daeja's Document Streaming Server Module overcomes these issues. Not only
does it remove the need for pre-rendering and pre-page separation,
it maintains the ease of multi-page viewing while reducing the
amount of data needed to transmit each page and without losing
page quality or fidelity.
The streamer uniquely optimizes the original page information
for web usage, which on its own, would lead to huge benefits
but combined with our streaming system yields so much more.
Daeja's solution works on-demand with your existing PDF documents.
The Document Streaming Server Module servlet takes PDF documents on the server
and sends reduced size PDF documents to the viewer. It's even possible
to view pages of a multi-page document randomly without having
to wait for prior pages to first be downloaded and it's all entirely
transparent to the user.
Daeja's solution will integrate into any web based or web enabled
ECM/DM system, and so whether your users view one or two pages,
or all pages, Daeja's unique PDF streaming technology will lead
to benefits for all.
Enhance further using pre-fetching
The Document Streaming Server Module can be enhanced
through the use of ViewONE Pro's pre-fetching which can be set
to pre-download and cache the pages in advance of the one being
viewed by a user. This operation is performed by ViewONE client
software on the users own machine. See our HTML
Manual for further information on the "PrefetchPages" configuration
option.
Test
for yourself online now - with your own documents
Our online demonstration uses a 20Mb, 783-page
TIFF file and a 10Mb, 1,287-page PDF file streamed from our own
web
server to illustrate the enormous performance gains that can be
achieved with the Document Streaming Server Module. You can even upload you own documents! Please click here to view the online demo (select the "ViewONE Pro - Document Streamer demo" link).
