Complete 'Lock-Down' Preventing Applet Use

An increased level of security occasionally means that the user's machine will be prevented from running any Java applets at all, obviously including ViewONE.

• In order to run ViewONE or ViewONE Pro, users must be able to run Java applets.
• Protection for those users is afforded by the Applet Digital Certificate, which is a requirement of all applets which access the local disks and which enable printing. Each provider of certificated applets has had to be vetted and approved by a certification body - in Daeja's case, the certification body is Thawte, a Verisign security company.
• As certificated applets, ViewONE and ViewONE Pro will not perform any local caching or installation until the user has accepted the Digital Certificate, ensuring that the user has the option to accept or decline.
• The ViewONE and ViewONE Pro Digital Certificates demonstrate the origin and authenticity of the ViewONE applets, and are 'signed' by Daeja. The certificates illustrate that the applets are genuine and have not been tampered with in any way.
• The Daeja Digital Certificate is clearly marked as being supplied by Daeja Image Systems Ltd, and whenever the viewer is first used, new users should always check that the certificate is still marked as such (unless Daeja has specifically provided a license to replace the certificate).
• Enabling Java applets can therefore be accompanied by instructions on which applet providers' certificates to accept.
