ViewOne Pro & ViewONE Standard System Requirements
ViewONE and ViewONE Pro are Java applets and therefore require a Java environment (typically a web browser) in which to operate.
ViewONE and ViewONE Pro do not require the most recent browser, or the latest version of a Java engine, ensuring that the widest possible usage of ViewONE and ViewONE Pro without the need to update computers. This approach minimizes the effort (and technical expertise) required of the user before they can start to use your system. Both viewers are designed to operate with a Java environment of version 1.4.2_04+ or later and any browser supporting Java 1.4.2_04 or above (** please see additional notes below). We continue, of course, to work with the latest versions of each browser to ensure longevity.
We recommend you use one of the following browsers, although ViewONE should work in most browsers that support Java.
| Browser | Platform |
|---|---|
| Internet Explorer 6+ | Windows |
| Firefox 2+ | Windows & Mac 10.4.x |
| Safari 2.x | Mac 10.4.x |
Our applets include everything necessary for a fully functional end user applet. This covers every element of the graphical user interface, image and file handling. So you are unlikely to see an applet supporting Java 1.4.2_04 which looks as good and works as well as ours.
Ideally any Java applet should work in your browser without installation of additional browser options. For links to download the most recent browsers or Java engines, visit our downloads page.
Note: FireFox 3.6+ only supports versions of Java greater than 1.6.0_10. Further information can be found at http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/firefox_newplugin.xml
Changes to the Daylight Saving dates in the USA
****************************************************************
As a result of the US Energy Policy Act of 2005 the start and end dates of US Daylight Savings Time (DST) are different for 2007 onwards. If you want your Windows installation to recognize the changes you will need to apply a Microsoft Windows Patch (KB928388). This can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928388. Additionally for Java applets and applications to recognize the change you need to use JRE 1.4.2_13 or any JRE 1.5.x onwards (or the Microsoft JVM version 5.0.0.3810). Please note: If you need ViewONE to recognize the changes (e.g. for Annotation creation and modification dates), these updates will be required.
Note: Microsoft has discontinued its extended support for Windows 98/98SE/ME, which may affect the performance of some Window-specific features and modules, including the PDF Module. We will endeavor to continue to support for Windows-specific features and modules on these older operating systems, but performance cannot be guaranteed. Daeja no longer supports the Microsoft® Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM) which reached its End-Of-Life (EOL) by Microsoft on June 30, 2009. The MSJVM is considered obsolete software by Microsoft. It has been superseded by the Sun (now Oracle) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) which Daeja fully supports from version 1.4.2 onwards.
The last version of ViewONE Standard and ViewONE Pro to support the MSJVM was Standard 3.1.200/Pro 1.1.200.

**Additional Notes
While we try our best to support all versions of JREs there may be occasions, through no fault or control of our own, where specific JRE versions have issues, possibly due to JRE flaws or design issues, or even the JRE vendor has simply removed support. Daeja will where practical try to find workarounds though there may be times when we are simply unable to workaround JRE problems. Where workarounds are found it is our policy not to insist on upgrading a JRE simply because vendor support for it has been removed, but we do ask that the user/customer accepts that we are not responsible for any aspect of JRE operation or performance and affect that it may have on our products.
| Known Java Incompatibilities | |
|---|---|
| Version | Notes/Comments |
| Sun JRE 1.5.x | All JREs in the 1.5.x series under Windows can cause applets to crash intermittently when they are closing down. The symptoms are that the browser vanishes and an "hs_err_pid000.log" file is left on the desktop. Looking in this file reveals a stack trace which begins: C [ntdll.dll+0x10e6] |
| Sun JRE 1.4.2_03 and below | Versions 1.4.2_03 and below have certificate incompatibility issues with ViewONE Standard 3.1.178+ and ViewONE Pro 1.1.178+ |
| Sun JRE 1.4.1 | Not recommended for use due to stability issues |
| Sun JRE 1.4.0 | Not recommended for use due to stability issues |
| Sun JRE 1.3.1_14 and below | Versions 1.3.1_13 and below have certificate incompatibility issues with ViewONE Standard 3.1.178+ and ViewONE Pro 1.1.178+ |
| JInitiator 1.3 | Not recommended for use due to stability issues |
