IMPORTANT: Issue with JRE 1.5.x Series
There is a problem with all JREs in the 1.5.x series under Windows which can cause applets to crash intermittently when they are closing down. The symptoms are that the browser vanishes and an "hs_err_pid000.log" file is left on the desktop. Looking in this file reveals a stack trace which begins:

J sun.awt.windows.WComponentPeer._dispose()V
Upgrading to a JRE in the 1.6 series appears to resolve the issue.
